A traditional Tamil Matrimonial starts off with a ceremony known as Panda Kaal Muhurtam. In this ritual, the closest relatives of the families gather at a given place and pray for an uninterrupted and successful wedding which starts off the preparations for the marriage following which the shopping is done. A few days after this the groom is invited to the bride’s house and fed sweets and is treated lavishly; this is called the aarti ceremony. A ceremony in which sacred water is sprinkled over clay pots that are filled with different types of grains is called Pallikai Thellichal. After this the Nichiyadhartam and Lagna Pathrikai are performed in front of the priest and on the final day the Mangala Snaanam, Kashi Yatra, Oonjal, Kanyadaanam and saptapadi are carried out thereby marking the matrimony’s completion.
